The Seashore is north of San Francisco on Highway 101 in Marin County. Take Highway 1 near Mill Valley, or Highway 101 and Sir Francis Drake Blvd.
WHEN TO VISIT
Open year round. Peak visitor month is July. Fog and wind are frequent, but weather is mild during Spring and Autumn.
POINTS OF INTEREST
This peninsula near San Francisco is noted for its long beaches backed by tall cliffs, lagoons and esteros, forested ridges, and offshore bird and sea lion colonies. Part of the area remains a private pastoral zone.
No pets are allowed. Bear Valley Trailhead is access to more than 140 miles of trails. The Bear Valley Trail (four miles) winds through meadows and forests to the sea. Other trails lead into the high country of the Inverness Ridge and southern part of the Seashore. Point Reyes beaches have strong, pounding surf and rip currents.
